Developing plant signages for the Butterfly Patrol Gardens

We will be developing plant signages for the Butterfly Patrol Gardens at various Navi Mumbai Police Stations. These signs will highlight native flora essential to butterfly habitats, promoting awareness of local biodiversity.

this project aims to create thriving butterfly gardens at 10 Navi Mumbai  police stations in areas with limited green spaces. By planting over 300 butterfly-friendly plants at each site, we’re not only enhancing the natural beauty of these spaces but also improving air quality, reducing stress, and fostering a stronger connection between police officers and their communities.

About Butterfly Patrol

The Butterfly Patrol initiative aims to transform 10 Navi Mumbai police stations into vibrant green sanctuaries that benefit both the environment and the well-being of our urban police personnel.

Project Updates

March 2025

Police personnel at all stations participated in awareness sessions led by India's "Butterfly Man," Mr. Isaac Kehimkar, learning about the ecological value of butterflies. The project has improved air quality, reduced stress, and fostered stronger community bonds. Surveys show that the gardens are positively impacting staff, creating peaceful spaces for reflection while raising environmental awareness. Special initiatives, like the installed butterfly exhibit at the Commissioner’s Office, further promote nature conservation.

February 2025

We are excited to announce the creation of bilingual boards (English and Marathi) for the Butterfly Patrol Project by the iNaturewatch Foundation, inspired by Plus Design's Nature Series. These educational exhibits will be installed at the Commissioner of Police’s Butterfly Garden in CBD Belapur, Navi Mumbai, highlighting the importance of butterfly gardens in urban areas and their vital role in pollination and biodiversity. Additionally, we’re thrilled to unveil the new title signage for all iNaturewatch Foundation butterfly gardens, designed by Ecopreneur Shubha and crafted by Cats Media and Madwits.

December 2024

We have successfully continued our mission of developing 10 butterfly gardens across Navi Mumbai Police Stations, a marathon initiative we began in December 2024. In January 2025, we developed seven of these vibrant gardens, including those at Kalamboli Police Station, Kalamboli Headquarters, Taloja Police Station, NRI EMC Police Station, and Nerul Police Station. These gardens not only enhance local biodiversity but also support essential pollinators while providing a refreshing, eco-friendly environment for police personnel.

December 2024

We are excited to announce the completion of the first Butterfly Garden at the CP Office, CBD Belapur. The project began on December 11, 2024, with Mr. Sanjay Patil, DCP of Navi Mumbai, planting the first Curry leaf sapling, a host plant for the Common Mormon butterfly. The garden, completed on December 12, 2024, features 393 saplings from 34 plant species, including nectar and larval host plants, chosen to create a thriving butterfly habitat.
