Hello, Moth Lovers or Moth-ers!

11th Anniversary: National Moth Week 2022

The 11th annual National Moth Week honours the vibrant range of nocturnal or, more commonly, cryptic species known as "Moths." It is observed from July 17 until July 25.

Find out more

National Moth Week July 17 - 25

The weeklong event known as National Moth Week honours moths' beauty, life cycles, and habitats. All "Moth-ers" are invited to discover, watch, and record the moths in their backyards, parks, and neighbourhoods. The last week of July is recognised as National Moth Week throughout the world. NMW provides a special chance for everyone, everywhere, to become a Citizen Scientist and contribute knowledge about moths. Through collaborations with significant online biological data repositories, NMW participants can give crucial data on different aspects of life cycle around the world as well as assist in mapping moth distribution.

How we are Celebrating?

NMW Celebrations: Caterpillar Rearing Programme for Schools

NMW Celebrations at iNaturewatch Foundation

This is the first time that our Founder Dr. V. Shubhalaxmi, of iNaturewatch Foundation, has initiated a  programme for school students, were we have started the Caterpillar Rearing Project, which will provide our young explorers a glimpse into the world of the inhabitants of the dark dynasty, The Moths. The schools are  actively participating in this fantastic project and embracing the opportunity to learn more about this fascinating insect. We nominated four regional coordinators: the iNaturewatch Foundation for the western zone,

Ms. Prita Dey for the south, Nature Mates for the east, and WWF-Delhi for the north. In total,

281 students from 15 different schools registered for the programme. Students raised

caterpillars for moths (67) and butterfly (28) during the project. A total of 100 datasheets

were submitted, and 93 of those have successfully raised the caterpillars. Out of them, 67 had

raised the most moth caterpillars, and 100 had raised the most individuals. The Government

Higher Primary School Moodmbailu in Dakshinna Kannada, Karnataka, won this project

where 39 datasheets, 37 lifecycles, and 39 individuals were reared by 21 students there (24

moths and 14 butterflies).
